Looking at your video of the baby shrimp makes part of me want to put some macro algae in my future tank. The other part is afraid because the tank is so small and I would have a hard time keeping it from taking over.

I think it would be a very good idea to have some macroalgae in your tank Ann, it will only grow heavily if it has a lot of nutrients in the water, which your tank wont as the bio-load from a handful of shrimps produced next to nothing. I'm the opposite to you, i want it to grow out of control

I'm hoping that as it grows bigger it will outcompete the hair algae and starve it all to death, hair algae is the stuff that takes over your tank and is a nightmare to remove.

Then I will. It's worth the effort if it will make the babies feel more comfortable.

It will help keep your water healthy and also help cycle your tank.

Then it should be put in during cycling? I read somewhere that rushing the cycling process could make the tank more vulnerable to crashes later on.

Not at all Ann, put the macroalgae in the tank right at the start and it will get the cycle started sooner, it will carry beneficial bacteria and a small amount of cycled water in the bag.
