I received the volcanic rock today. They are in smaller pieces I knew they would be. I was wondering if I should use them as substrate or stay with the Moon Sand and just pieces of the rock here and there. I want to do what is right for the the shrimp.

You could always 'dart' it around the tank which would look quite nice or you could get some tank safe glue and glue a few pieces together and make a sort of cave or mound for the shrimp to climb and sit on?
